  1. INTRODUCTION
  2. PMJPEG is a shareware image viewer with image processing and conversion
  3. capabilities for OS/2 2.x.  PMJPEG is a port of WinJPEG to OS/2 2.x.  It is
  4. a native 32-bit PM application.
  5.  
  6. PMJPEG v.1.63 has the following features:
  7.   - display JPEG, TIFF, GIF, Targa, PCX, Windows BMP, OS/2 BMP, or PPM images
  8.   - export an image to JPEG, TIFF, GIF, Targa, PCX, Windows BMP, OS/2 BMP,
  9.     or PPM format
  10.   - capability of generating OS/2 desktop-background bitmaps that use
  11.     the system colors
  12.   - display an image in monochrome, 16 color, 256 color, hicolor, or
  13.     truecolor display modes
  14.   - display an image in full screen mode
  15.   - print an image with scaling, best proportional fit on the page, or
  16.     fit for full page
  17.   - red/green/blue or hue/saturation/brightness adjustment
  18.   - color to grayscale conversion or image negative conversion
  19.   - contrast enhancement
  20.   - gamma correction
  21.   - image rotation, vertical or horizontal flip, image resizing, and
  22.     image cropping
  23.   - batch file compression of GIF, TIFF, Targa, or PPM files to JPEG File Interchange Format
  24.   - copy an image to the clipboard or paste an image from the clipboard
  25.   - slideshow: display selected files in forward, reverse, or random
  26.     order with a cycle option
  27.   - image buffering in a cyclic slideshow
  28.   - capture a window, the client area of a window, or a portion of or
  29.     the entire desktop
  30.   - support for file name extension association and starting a slideshow

  43. KNOWN PROBLEMS 
  44. There are two bugs in the 256 color ET4000 driver that comes with the
  45. OS/2 2.1 beta or OS/2 2.0 + Service Pack: 1) the driver does not stretch
  46. the bitmap correctly so the Stretch to Fit Window option does not work
  47. properly, and 2) the image under the dialog box or under the drop-down
  48. menu is not re-drawn with the right colors.  Use the Auto-Refresh option
  49. if you have the second problem.
  50.  
  51. If you are using the 256 color ET4000 driver, for certain images such as
  52. 24-bit images displayed with Maximum Color Depth set to 256 colors, the
  53. text that shows the cropping dimensions is garbled by a filled box.
  54. This appears to be a bug in OS/2's palette manager or the driver.
  55.  
  56. If you are using a 256 color driver, when you exit PMJPEG, the system
  57. colors do not immediately return to normal.  The system colors are
  58. gradually restored by OS/2.   You can force the colors to change back by
  59. opening and/or closing a window, such as the window list that pops up
  60. when you hit CTL-ESC.

  63. DISTRIBUTION CONDITIONS
  64. You are free to distribute this shareware version of PMJPEG as long as the
  65. following conditions are met:
  66.   1) The distributed archive must contain ONLY the files listed above.
  67.   2) The contents of this archive are NOT MODIFIED in any way.
  68.   3) This version is not to be sold.  However, a reasonable disk copying fee
  69.      is permitted.
  70.   4) This version is not to be bundled with a commercially sold package
  71.      without permission from the authors.

  74. HOW TO REGISTER   
  75. If you use PMJPEG for more than 14 days, you are expected to register
  76. PMJPEG.  When you register, you will receive the latest version of
  77. PMJPEG, a user manual, and a collection of JPEG images (we will put as
  78. many as we can fit on 1 1.44M 3 1/2" floppy or on 4 360k 5 1/4"
  79. floppies).  Also, the registered version does not have the
  80. reminder-to-register screen at the start.
  81.  
  82. The registration fee is only $20.  Massachusetts residents, add 5% sales
  83. tax to the registration fee.  US residents, add $4 for shipping and
  84. handling; non-US residents, add $8 for shipping and handling.   If you
  85. want PMJPEG e-mailed to your account instead of having it physically
  86. mailed to you, there is no extra shipping charge.  If you are paying
  87. with a Visa or MasterCard, add 10% to this subtotal.  The 10% is the
  88. processing fee that we get charged for credit card transactions.

  90. Updates are free but the shipping charge described above applies to
  91. updates.  Users who register PMJPEG and provide an e-mail address will
  92. automatically receive updates via e-mail.
  93.  
  94. For e-mail registrations, you need to use a program called "uudecode" to
  95. decode the uuencoded file that we e-mail to you.  For your information,
  96. a uuencoded file is a binary file that is converted to text by a program
  97. called "uuencode".  If your mail system rejects large messages, we will
  98. split the uuencoded file into smaller parts before mailing the parts to
  99. you, and you will need to edit the messages with a text editor before
  100. you can decode them.  Compuserve, for example, does not permit large
  101. e-mail messages.  Also, the uuencoded file is rather large; it is
  102. approximately 300k for PMJPEG v.1.6.  Compuserve users may find it less
  103. expensive to receive PMJPEG via U.S. Mail.

  105. Registrations with the incorrect fee, non-US currency, or drawn on a
  106. non-US bank will be returned.

  115. Registration of PMJPEG is based on "personal usage."  Corporate or
  116. organizational users must register all copies used on an individual
  117. basis; a specific person (name) must be explicitly assigned to each
  118. registrant who will be provided with a personalized copy of PMJPEG.
  119. Registration grants a specific person (not an organization or corporate
  120. entity) the right to use PMJPEG.

  122. Although we will try to mail your copy of PMJPEG 1-3 weeks after we
  123. receive your registration, please allow up to 4-6 weeks for delivery.
